Wine Novice to Master of Wine

Welcome to Learning to Drink.  This blog is all about my journey from wine novice to (hopefully) master of wine.  I have always enjoyed a glass of wine and knew what I liked and did not step too far outside of my comfort zone.  Then I took the Wine and Spirit Education Trust Level 1 course and fell head over heels in love with wine.  It is a perfect mix of science and art – two things I have always struggled to pair in my career.  So from that fateful day in June 2011, I have quickly progressed through the WSET courses and I have now completed five of the six diploma units and I am studying for an MA in Food and Wine Culture at Oxford Brookes.  It has all been a bit of a blur but I have had the opportunity to try some outstanding wines and meet some fascinating people and I am very much looking forward to my future in the wine industry.

In this blog I will share my learning experiences but I really want it to be interactive and for readers to get involved and share their experiences as well as recommendations for wines.  When it comes to wine, opinion is very much individual and based on your own taste, so feel free to comment, share and recommend.
